Hugo Mercier Bosseny
Hugo is a French lighting designer. He began his career as Head Electrician and Lighting Assistant with the French theater company Théâtre du Soleil, led by Ariane Mnouchkine. After four years with the company, he decided to leave and move to Brazil.
In Brazil, Hugo began working as a programmer and lighting operator for musicals. He also joined Vertical Rigging Solutions, a rigging company based in Rio de Janeiro, where he had the opportunity to be part of major events such as Rock in Rio and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As a lighting designer, Hugo has worked on notable productions including Auana (Cirque du Soleil, 2024), The Illusionists Live from Broadway (tours starting in 2023), Rio de Janeiro Carnival with the Portela Samba School (2023), Mad Apple (Cirque du Soleil, Las Vegas, 2022), The Illusionists: Magic of the Holidays (2019) on Broadway and on U.S. tour, The Illusionist Experience (2019), A Magical Cirque Christmas (2018–2019), Cirque Paris (2018), The Unbelievables Christmas Extravaganza (2017), and Le Noir (2017). His work on Gritos (2016), produced by Dos à Deux, earned him three awards for Best Theatrical Lighting Design in Brazil. He also took part in the first La Force International Circus Festival (2018) in São Paulo.
Hugo loves the creative process and bringing visions and ideas to life.
